Peanut Gallery

I like knives, I like necklaces, and I also like peanuts. Perfect fit. Now I can be secretly armed at all times.

Pocket knife, schmocket knife. Neck knives are where its at!

There is a lot of other knife necklaces to browse through in Mary’s Etsy store, Contrary.

And Now Here’s the Weather

At one time Michael Jang’s job was to photograph these hopeful faces auditioning to be their towns next big weather superstar…. in 1983. The portraits are now a part of the Summer Weather series.

Michael has photographed some of the greats - Jimi Hendrix, Ronald Reagan, and Robin Williams to name a few. It wasn’t until recently that Michael started to dish out his personal work publicly. So far, his other projects include The Banquet Crasher and Garage Band.

Holding on to these retro gems for 30 years made them even better. I had a hard time choosing which photos to post sooo I’ve posted almost all of them. ENJOY!

Lovely Package: Exchanged!

My Lovely Package Exchange partner, Bunny Victorious, in list form:

5 FAVORITE THINGS: corn from the garden | fresh-picked flowers at the gas stations | birds (especially the little metal ones on our hand-made chandelier) | books, books, books, books, books, especially cookbooks | freshly baked anything

5 WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF:  americana | classic | pretty | southern | pink

After reading my exchange partners interests and having just read an article about  Sugar on Front, I decided to go the baked goods route. The cookies + one brownie were packaged in an American vintage “Tasty Loaf” bread box. Recipe clippings from aged cook books I found at Old Books were used as tissue paper. The remaining recipe clippings, pieces of screen, twine, and a teensy bit of tye-dyed duct tape were used to fashion a paper flower. The shipping box was sealed with snip tape.

TA-DA!

Some cookies may have been eaten prior to packaging ☺

(card back: “happy lovely package exchange!”)

This was such a fun project, can’t wait until the next one!

Special Delivery

Yesterday was quite a day for special deliveries! Pop Chart Lab’s über cool print, Alphabet of Typography, has officially gone from “MINE?” to “MINE!”

My friend Lady Con Con, mentioned here, also sent me a lovely letter written on her new typewriter. Snail mail is the best!

In a few days I will be posting pictures of the package I have been working on for The Lovely Package Exchange. I’m very excited for the swap with my new virtual pen-pal and soon to be package-pal, Bunny Victorious!

When Polyester Ruled the World

These fashion ads from the 70’s are like Mountain Dew for the eye balls.

There’s the initial energy spike (from laughing at all the suffocating genitals.) Then there’s the crash (after you realize you spent 25 minutes looking at all the suffocating genitals.)

If I learned anything from these ads it’s that I need me some of these Kickin’ Jeans!

Are you man enough to read the description below?

“V.I.P”. It’s not just for people.

Summer Birthday Series - Part 3

Someone who holds a special spot in the Summer Birthday Series is the one, the only….  Lady Con Con. Months ago she asked me to keep my eyes peeled for a vintage typewriter for her. Ended up finding one and secretly keeping it for her birthday. She is in a different town for the summer which breaks my heart. Despite the lack of summer laughs it temporarily worked in my favor; my face cannot keep secrets.

(back: “and many more”)

Mine?

Here’s a list of things I want but surely do not need.

1. Bread that makes me feel like I’m a giant feeding on gnomes

2. Enough mason jars to make these pretty mobiles for all my friends

3. Vintage type writer keys to put in a bowl in my living room and look pretty

4. Hundreds of these snap-and-dine kits by Demel Zahill so I never have to do dishes again but still feel fancy

5. Sequin dress from Suno Resort 2013

6. Obviously this Alphabet of Typography poster by Pop Chart Lab because I am font obsessed

7. This unknown plant which looks to be of the succulent variety

Shoes. Shoes. Shoes.

The hunt was on this week at work for lots and lots of shoes. Now, as fun as it sounds, buying 100 pairs of shoes isn’t easy. I’ve scoured the town from thrift store to department store and all that’s in between and STILL need more.

While on the hunt I came across this sweet little pair of vintage Jimmy Choo heels (that I kept for myself) for $14. YIPPEE!

A policy I will never understand.
